John Dunmore Lang (founder of the Presbyterian Church in Australia) to sponsor workers for migration to New South Wales. It is believed that Thomas was the only family member to have emigrated to New South Wales, and he arrived in Sydney on 23 Jan. 1838. The ship was placed into quarantine at North Head due to a Typhus infection amon the immigrants and as a result it was reported that 32 had died as a result. Thomas was able to leave quarantine on 76 March, after 44 days in the quarters.
Thomas was employed as a carpenter and cabinet maker for Major General Stewart at "Abercrombie" Ophir Road in Bathurst, New South Wales, bt 1838 - 1839.

I now wish that nature had better fitted me to be her loving partner, but although the constitution of our minds varied, I venture to conclude that in the days we spent together, and from the fruits of our union, few have been happier and more successful in climbing the hill of life together and leaving the world better than they found it than THOMAS and REBECCA ADAM. If we meet in another world, my hope is that a like position will be assigned to us.
