Cohen and Co.'s warehouse now stands. The bit snapped in the horse's mouth, and Chambers, losing control of the animal - which was extremely difficult to manage - was thrown on a heap of loose boulders. The unfortunate man struck one of these with his head, the back of which was frightfully smashed. Constable Kedwell, who saw Chambers thrown, reached the spot where he fell about a minute after the accident, but death had already taken place.
