All 20-year-old males had to register with the Department of Labour and National Service, and their names were selected by the "birthday ballot", in which men were randomly selected for national service by their date of birth. Those selected were required to serve for two years full-time in the Regular Army and three years part-time in the reserves. Many of these men were posted into Army units fighting in Vietnam. Due to health issues, he received his discharge in 1968.

Mr Sivyer was very widely known and highly respected throughout the district. Prior to his selecting land here some 20 years ago he was inspector of timber and bridges for the present North Coast Line. He was subsequently engaged in the timber trade and latterly in dairying. Mr Sivyer was a colonist of over 70 years, having arrived with his parents in Sydney in the early forties and his father was the owner of sawpits at North Sydney. He bad been a resident of Queensland for 56 years. The body was interred in the Cooroy Cometery, there being a very large attendance of residents and relatives. The service was conducted by the Rev H B Martin (Methodist minister.)

He was buried in Cooroy, Queensland.
