Thomas Adam
     Thomas Adam was baptised on 1 May 1819 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire.
Thomas was a Carpenter and Cabinet Maker.
Thomas lived at 13 Langlands Street in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, in 1837.
He emigrated on 13 Sep 1837 from Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, on board the "Minerva", under a bounty program initiated by Rev. John Dunmore Lang (founder of the Presbyterian Church in Australia) to sponsor workers for migration to New South Wales. It is believed that Thomas was the only family member to have emigrated to New South Wales, and he arrived in Sydney on 23 Jan. 1838.
Thomas was employed as a carpenter and cabinet maker for Major General Stewart at "Abercrombie" Ophir Road in Bathurst, New South Wales, bt 1838 - 1839.
Thomas Adam left Sydney in October 1839 on board the "Louisa", circumnavigating the world via the Pacific Ocean, South America and the Cape of Good Hope and returning to Sydney in June 1840.


Thomas Adam married Rebecca Bowden, daughter of William Bowden and Elizabeth Godfrey, on 28 Aug 1840 at St Andrew's Scots Presbyterian Church in Sydney, New South Wales.
Thomas was working in the timber trade at Newport in Lake Macquarie, New South Wales, bt 1840 - 1846.
Thomas Adam returned to Newcastle and set up his first business in 1846, and two years later made his first land purchase. He continued to buy and sell land for the next forty years, developing his sawmill on Bullock Island between 1857 and 1861.

Thomas was a farmer, probably a tenant farmer of Alexander Walker Scott who owned tracts of land around Ash Island. in 1850.

Thomas Adam and Mary Anne Elson were greatly affected by the Hunter River flood, and many possessions from their Raymond Terrace property were lost in 1893.

Thomas Adam and Mary Anne Adam were farewelled at a public meeting convened by the Mayor, Mr Hanlon, prior to their move to Mayfield on 23 Jun 1916.
