The "Centaur" had sailed from Sydney at 9.45am on 12 May 1943, and was sunk at approximately 4am on 14 May 1943. At that time she was about 50 miles ENE of Brisbane. There were 34 survivors and 223 casualties from the compliment of crew, nurses, doctors and ambulance members.
