He was buried in Bendolba, New South Wales, and the funeral was reported as follows: The late Samuel Simmonds was buried in the Bendolba cemetery, Rev. Luscombe officiating.
Members of the Renown Branch of G.U.O.O.F. (Wangat) met the cortege at the Bendolba school and marched to the cemetery. The funeral was very large and representative and showed the esteem and respect in which deceased was held. As a tribute to deceased, cricket matches and other functions were postponed. Deceased leaves a wife and one child.
He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Simmonds and Mr. J. T. Simmonds, jnr., was a brother and sisters were Mrs. D. Neilson, Mrs. R. Neilson, Mrs. Rumbel (2), Mrs. Stan Simmons (Avon) and Miss Florrie Simmonds. Mr. H. Fairhall (Dungog) was a brother-in-law. This was the fifth death in the Fairhall family last year.
Deepest sympathy is felt for the bereaved in their sad loss. Mr. F. G. Redman conducted the funeral.

His children were born at Balmain, Turramurra and Randwick, so he apparently served in those areas. Due to ill health he retired from the Police Force around 1915 and returned to live in Morpeth. His nephew Stan suggested, in a letter in 1966, that it was believed that George had at one time been kicked in the stomach by a prisoner he was arresting, and his death was partly or wholly caused by a growth resulting from that injury a 1 Apr 1891.
George was a Police Constable at the time of Miriam's Baptism in Feb 1895.
