      Jack Stratford Ward was born on 6 Sep 1913 in Lismore, New South Wales.
Jack was a Shop Assistant and Storekeeper.

He began military service on 11 Nov 1940 in Sydney, New South Wales, as a Flying Officer, 2 Service Flying Training School, in the Royal Australian Air Force, Service No: 402989. It is recorded that he had served in the 41st Battalion AMF for 3.5 years prior to enlistment, and had been discharged when offered a commission in the RAAF. He became qualified as a Pilot and arrived in England on 21 Dec 1941. Jack was a member of RAF No.12 Squadron (Wellington bombers) until his presumed death.

Jack Stratford Ward died on 26 Sep 1942 near Keil, Schleswig-Holstein, at the age of 29 and it is presumed that his aircraft was destroyed by enemy fire on a night bombing mission. The aircrew were initially reported as "missing in action", and this was later amended to "killed in action."
