Charles Jones married Mary French on 16 Nov 1833 in Crowhurst, East Sussex, by Henry M. Rush (Curate.)
Charles was a Farmer, according to his son Walter's Death Certificate.
Charles and Mary lived in Battle, East Sussex, according to their immigration details.
Charles Jones and Mary Jones immigrated on 27 Jul 1841 to Sydney, New South Wales, on board the "Queen Victoria", having left Plymouth on 2 April. It is recorded that the Queen Victoria brought "275 emigrants to this Colony, consisting principally of English laborers. She lost one adult and six infants during the voyage, the remainder have arrived in very good health. The Queen Victoria experienced very rough weather a few days since when off Jervis Bay, she got to leeward, and being very light gradually approached the land, and latterly was obliged to drop both anchors; shortly afterwards fortunately the wind got more round in her favour when it was found necessary to cut away the cable, and make the best of her way to Sydney. There is little doubt that if the wind had not chopped round she must have been wrecked, as she was only about a cable's length from the rocks. She spoke no vessel since leaving England, nor does she bring any later news than that we have already received."
Charles Jones died in 1888 in Sofala, New South Wales, at the stated age of 78 years. Parents' names not recorded.
