As an innovative photographer with wooden box cameras, even attaching an electromagnet to one for remote operation, books of his photos have been published in the last 30 years or so, and there were 1000s as glass plate photos.

William Curruthers Lawrie died on 30 Sep 1960 at John Street in Workington, Cumbria, at the age of 77 and the cause of his death was recorded as a Cycling accident.
